Soft landing during Covid from US

Hi,
My COPR was issued before March 18 and my COPR date is June 15. I am currently in US on a H-1b and was planning to do a soft landing and then come back on the same day from the airport. I think the Canada travel restrictions are till tomorrow i.e May 21 as per below

I dont know if they will be extended further.

Regarding the recent uncertainty related to H-1b, has anyone recently travelled to Canada from US and came back without any issue at the port of entry.

I have received an email from CIC, where they have asked to raise a webform If your CoPR expires before you are able to travel to Canada.
Can I raise this form even if the flights resume next week or early June. Also for how long do they postpone the CoPR date

Canada/US border restrictions are being extended another month just the page has not been updated yet and believe those specific restrictions in the link are aimed at the land border..

If you fly to Canada then you should expect to have an isolation plan and to enter quarantine for 14 days given you are entering the country not transiting staying airside.

You should submit a web form as per the process given if you read the instructions they say either unable or unwilling to currently travel. Extensions are I believe issued on a case by case basis but if you read the many posts on this forum there doesnt seem to be any issue currently but read for yourself.

I see flights operating from NYC to Toronto but since they have extended it for another month for non-essential (discretionary) travel, I cannot basically fly then right from US for CoPR (assuming this is coming under nonessential)? Could you share the official notification, where they might have updated this.

So should I just raise the webform and ask for an extension.
Do I need to give any supporting documents (flight tickets?) or just share the official url page where they have mentioned this travel restriction from US.

I think they should be aware of the restrictions. But yeah I think it’s worth putting the link and explaining why you can’t travel before the expiration date.

Do you know for sure that COPR Landing from USA is considered non essential?

PR landing is allowed if you are coming for settling or at-least coming in with a plan to stay for 14 day quarantine. There are threads on this forum where people have shared their recent landing experience. You will be asked how you plan to stay during 14 day quarantine period.

So does it mean that, if your pr was approved AFTER March 18 and copr is still valid, you can travel to Canada as long as you going by land?

PR landing is allowed if you are coming for settling or at-least coming in with a plan to stay for 14 day quarantine. There are threads on this forum where people have shared their recent landing experience. You will be asked how you plan to stay during 14 day quarantine period.

Does anybody know what is the process if your case was approved before Mar 18 and you are unwilling to travel before your CoPR expiration date.
Does anybody know the future steps after raising the webform?
Do you have to redo the medical and submit the passport again? Would I also need a new CoPR landing document?

I think the answer is Yes ONLY if you are coming from the USA. I called border services and got this answer -


The lady I spoke to was very nice. She said that depending on the time that we enter, there may or may not be immigration services there, to process our landing. But she said that even if there’s no one there from immigration, the border officer would process us and let us in. The immigration landing would be done later once they’re available.
I asked her specifically if there’s any reason we would be denied entry and she said no there’s no reason since you’re coming from USA. It’s just that the immigration services may not be available
