hey guys,

Iam here with an IEC work permit valid for one year, it expires in august. If I would apply now for skilled worker immigration with an job offer from my current employer, is it enough time until august to get my permit from the immigration office approved?
How long does it usually take in these cases?

thanks in advance

You realize that you would require an AEO rather than a letter from your employer, as your IEC work visa was issued without a LMO? The AEO will take about 6 months, if approved, you are looking at about minimum of 12 months or more.

What means LMO or AEO?? That means there is no use to apply for this, cause I am not waiting 1 year.
Canada should really think about there immigration, cause refusing ppl who speak the language fluently and work have to leave?!

Another question: In case I get married with my canadian girlfriend, am I allowed to stay and work or I have to leave and wait 1 year??

thanks

If you get married to your Canadian girlfriend, she would have to sponsor you for permanent residency. Once your PR status is approved, you would be allowed to permanently stay in the country and work. Just marrying her gets you nothing.

hey, thanks for your info. You said, in case I got married it takes time until its approved, but can I stay and work in the meantime, cause obviously I have to take care of my wife. I got a job and they wanna keep me aswell and I dotn wanna loose it, just because of waiting fo answer.

If you want to stay and work after your IEC work permit expires, then your employer will have to apply for a Labour Market Opinion (LMO). If the LMO is approved you will then have to apply for a new work permit. And then assuming your work permit is approved, you can then start/continue working.

So again, marrying alone will not allow you to stay and work. If you want to continue working, you will need to go through the steps I have outlined above.

many thanks for your kind info. What if I register in a school for a certain course or something, am I allowed to work either. At least I have another 1-2 years time to apply for permanent resident? or is such a way totally impossible?

thanks

To study - you need a study visa. I think it would be difficult for you to be approved for a study visa since you must demonstrate strong ties to your home country and prove you have no interest in remaining in Canada long term. Since you are already in Canada, CIC may suspect you want to stay long term and deny your student visa.

As for working, depending on what school you attend, you may be allowed to work part time (20 hours a week maximum) once you have completed six months of studies in Canada.
