Hello,

Here again needing your inputs!!
We already have got our PRs and currently, outside of Canada.

SINP Residency
Being SINP nominated EE PR, I understand we need to move to SK and try making it a home!

I work for a multi-national company and I'm trying to work out a transfer to its Canadian entity. I know they have offices in Toronto, ON & Vancouver, BC but not very sure of any in SK.

So, my questions:
  • Considering the tough job market, would it be wise to get transfer to my current employer's Canadian entity? This will make transition to Canada smooth & easy. Don't have to worry about looking for a new job.
  • Will it be OK if I'm asked to work out of ON / BC? ... say, for a year or so and then move to SK (even if it involves switching employment)
  • Will it be acceptable if I work remote from SK? (I don't know if they even allow remote but just exploring)
  • Is there any minimum period of stay in SK to satisfy SK Residency?
  • Would CBSA object if, while entering Canada via land border with goods, we say that initially we are going to be reside in Toronto, ON for a year & then move to SK? As we already have PR cards, does it even matter to CBSA while entering Canada?
University outside of SK
Linked to the above is also another question for university selection for our elder child.

For him to satisfy SINP residency, is it necessary for him to opt for university in SK or he is free to choose any university outside of SK? If parents reside in SK, child has opted for university outside of SK and comes home during breaks/vacation, will the entire period be considered towards satisfying SK residency?

We are concern that he should not have to limit his choices of the university because of SK residency requirement.

Appreciate your guidance.

So do you have any plans to settle in SK. You should be moving there as soon as you land. Land in Toronto and then fly to SK. You can work remotely in SK. The PA must settle in SK. Your child can study anywhere. Plan to stay a year.

Had you looked at the job market or types of industry when applying? SINP had been an easier way to obtain PR but would have never been a good option for certain NOCs. You also appear to have a good job so would be reluctant to either move to Canada or leave your job/employer at the moment.

Agree that your child should land in SK but as a dependent does have the opportunity to attend whatever school she wants to attend but should be as a SK resident at least initially.

Thanks @Naturgrl

Yes, we do plan to settle in SK. We would be crossing into Canada via the land border.

However, given that I'm trying to work out a transfer within the company to Canandian office, I'm not sure if they have office in SK or they allow remote. Hence, the question if we can still stay in Toronto / Vancouver initially and then plan a move to SK.

Thanks @canuck78

While transition to Canada with family itself is a big change, if I stay with my current employer, we have one less "major" thing to worry about. Hence, the questions around if we can stay in Toronto/Vancouver initially and then plan move to SK after a year. What's your take?

It's relieving to know that child can go to any college without impact to the residency obligations.

No you have to settle in SK first. Your child should still land in SK with you.

Why is that the case? with 2 years still to go within first 5 years, can't we start in any other province & come back to SK at a later date?

Also, as I mentioned earlier, we are already PR and visited Ontario/Quebec on short holidays... so with this move, we are not landing first time in Canada. Does this change your stance on us going to SK first?

Thanks @Naturgrl

You are jeopardizing your PR and future citizenship by not settling in the province you were nominated in. Get a lawyer for professional advice.

By no means we want to have our PR/Citizenship into trouble!

All of the questions here is an attempt to gather information ahead of the time to ensure we make an informed decision!! Thanks @Naturgrl for your inputs thus far.

Have you ever lived in SK? Your first place to live and settle should be SK. You were nominated by that province so settle there.

Visiting for a short vacation is not settling in Canada. You applied for a PR program to settle in SK so you are expected to do your best to settle in SK. IRCC and provinces care where you first settle not where you may have moved in subsequent years. You received PR through SINP to meet the labour needs in SK not other provinces.
