Single vs joint citizenship application.

We (my partner & I) are preparing our citizenship application. We need to decide whether to send them together or separate. CIC website seems to imply that there is little difference (other than returning all apps if one is incomplete---which by itself is worrying even though we are checking every document several times). Have anyone here observed any pros/cons of sending two individual applications vs a single joint application? I'm specially concerned that if one of us gets RQ'ed or otherwise delayed, it may cause a delay for the other (joint application), vs applying separately being considered somewhat "suspicious".

Also, do you know if the rule "any travel + any self-declared self-employment" still triggers an RQ? Background: My partner did contract work for a foreign company (telecommuting from Canada) for a month, until they incorporated here and hired her directly, and we recently took a short vacation overseas. I've been a full-time student during all the relevant time, leaving only during said short vacation.
