Hey, so for those of you that were on a temporary SIN (beginning with a 9) and have now received PR, When do you update your SIN with service canada? Can you do it as soon as you get C.O.P.R or do you have to wait until you are landed( I am going back to England in three weeks so will land when I return from my vacation)

We did it with CoPR - don't have PR cards yet - it was fine. Ditto for OHIP. BUT I just realized what you are saying - we did it with our signed and stamped CoPRs. I think you do need to land first - but I don't know for sure.

Actually, on this topic, I've been wondering does the change in SIN have any knock on regarding T4's and filing taxes? Or am I over thinking?

I asked Service Canada that, they said it doesn't change how much we pay in taxes and I guess we'll wait and see what our T4 looks like next year, I think they'll have to show it with both numbers on there.

It shouldn't affect what you owe - but it needs to be connected to your old SIN to keep an ongoing record of your old taxes. We were told we didn't have to inform Canada Revenue of the change, but be sure to have the employer change it, and then use the new SIN when doing your taxes.

I found out just recently, that you have a CRA login you will need to re-register with your new SIN. I tried to login to find out some info and my login didn't work.

Employer would do taxes under a new SIN, however I remember my tax girl told me once I change my SIN, I have to contact her and notify her of the changes.
I believe same would go for my bank accounts for IR on savings/Pension Plans etc.
