The SIN processing time to remove Dormant flag is currently (1/25/2019) about 5 weeks before
the application is assigned to an officer. After assignment, the dormant flag can be removed
quickly or require further investigation.

After 5 years of non-use, your SIN number gets tagged as dormant. You need to visit the Service Center
(or mail in an application) to have the tag removed. The queue is currently 5 weeks. Usually applies
to returning Canadians, but can apply to other folks as well. I was looking for the queue time, and
could not find it. Called in, sat on hold for 30 minutes and I am sharing the info with others. HTH.

Oh didn't know that. Good to know. Can you not just go into a Service Canada branch with your ID (birth cert, drivers license etc)?

That's the process. It is not instant approval (like most new SINs) for dormant flag removal. Currently, it's 5 weeks
as an officer needs to look.
