Hi All, posting this for a friend.
She got married a couple of years ago, assumed her husband's name in Ontario for the driving license, Ohip cards. Then changed name in her home country (this is a PR), got a new passport in that name, and then got her PR card updated in that name. CRA has the new name on file as well as she'd been filing it under her new name for the last 3 years, and notified them about marital status change right after the marriage. But just today she started wondering if she should have also applied to have her SIN number updated after all those changes (no SIN card, hudt the name innrecord associated with the number)? Or did that get updated automatically as she changed her name on her PR card and her tax return? Does she need to contact Service Canada separately to update her name assigned to the SIN number she has asap? (it's been 3 or 4 years now).
Just to clarify, this was not a legal name change as she does not have a Canadian birth certificate (and her home birth cert also was not changed), but she did change it on her passport and with Immigration on her PR card, and filed taxes for the last 3 years under that name as well.
