We are a family of 3 - me my spouse and daughter of 6 years. I believe we have to submit 2 separate applications for SIN for me and my spouse. (SIN numbers for both of us since we intent to work and not required for my daughter since she is a minor)? I am the primary applicant.

Can any one confirm if this understanding is correct

Thanks for your help

Your daughter will need a social insurance number if she/you want to have a RESP (Registered Education Savings Plan)

I don't know what province your in but here in Alberta we did not do an application. We went to Service Canada in person and the nice lady there did it all on the computer and printed out our numbers.

Same thing in Ontario, you just go the Service Canada office early in the morning with your passports and they will explain what form to fill. You will leave the office with a SIN number :)

Go to servicecanada.gc.ca

Since it is a federal thing, it's the same everywhere, except I think you can do it by phone in NB for some reason unknown to me.
