Hello everybody,

As you can see, I am new and I want to just thanks all those members on here that stayed and helped others with their application. So thank you!

1) IMM 1344 -- in this document, they ask you for an applicant name and date of birth at the bottom of each page? Is that me or my wife that I am sponsoring? I get confused because as per CIC, applicant = the person being sponsored?

2) My wife also has to fill out the same document above but it's the exact same document and some of the questions wouldn't apply to her such as part 1 in IMM 1344? Can she just leave that area blank?

3) Or do I and my wife just fill out one IMM 1344 or do each of us have to fill it out? Like if it's the latter, then a lot of the questions doesn't apply to her as she's not the one sponsoring?

4) For the additional family (IMM 5406) -- it asks for place of birth? Do they mean country of birth? Like can I just put Malaysia? Or do I have to put like the actual hospital name?

5) In the document checklist, they are asking my wife to provide passports or travel documents for each of the family members. Does this mean like her parents and siblings? They are not even coming with her to Canada. Just her. Or is it only applicable for dependents which we don't have ANY.

Thank you very much! And I will keep this thread constantly updated if I have any other questions and will completely outline the steps for other newbies!

Regards,

RS.

Hi! I'll try and answer your questions. The Applicant / Principal applicant is always the person that's being sponsored, and you will be the sponsor.

Place of birth, the country you were born, unless it specifically asks for city/state province etc, its always just the country he/she was born.

IMM 1344 is the application to Sponsor, so the person who is sponsorsing should fill it out! It says in the new document checklist which documents need to be filled by whom.

Only need to send the photocopy of passport etc for the Applicant. Since it's just your wife and no other dependents etc, it should just be her documents.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your application.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Just one last question regarding IMM 5406 --- the family information here is just for my wife, her parents and siblings right? Do I have to do it as well because it asks for the spouse information. So do I also have to fill out the form with my parents and siblings? I'm the one sponsoring her and my siblings are all born here and my parents are Canadian Citizens. I am so lost with how they word the documents. Jesus. CIC!

Thank you Haps22!

I can relate to how confusing the documents and the guides can be! Sometimes it's ridiculous. But the IMM 5406 is just for your wife to fill out information about her parents, siblings etc. Where it says spouse, it would be your name (sponsor). They use a generic additional family information form, so it can be quite confusing.

Also if her native language is not English, I would paper clip a piece of paper with this form with her name and info as well her family's name and info in her native language.

You're absolutely helpful! Hopefully no more questions but if there is, I'll just leave it here and somebody else can try helping. But again, if there's a way to thumbs up your account, I definitely would.

It really is confusing. The guide helps but it's the way they word certain things or phrase around it, that's where its confusing. Not doing the application/just understanding is difficult.

Best regards,

RS.
