Hi there,

My wife and I are moving to Canada in summer. Since she has admission in a Master's program in University of Ottawa so we will be going to Canada. We are actually immigrants under FSW class and we landed first time in 2012 in Toronto and left after some time. A friend suggested me that to reduce the housing costs it is good to rent a place in Hull or Gatineau as rents are low. I want to know that could we get into some administrative difficulties? Also, we don't speak french.

Thanks,

1. You should also note the difference in personal income tax between Quebec and Ontario.

But isn't place of employment decides where to pay taxes? I believe if you work in ontario you pay taxes in ontario.

No "When it comes time to file your income tax, it doesn't matter if you live in one province or territory and are employed and pay taxes in another. You file your income tax for the province or territory in which you reside on December 31 of the tax year"

1. No, it isn't true, I think that you should read what Canada Revenue Agency (the official agency that collects taxes) rather than a web site: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/tpcs/ncm-tx/rtrn/cmpltng/prsnl-nf/prvnc/menu-eng.html

1. That is for the employer making deductions, it doesn't state anything about where the person resides, only where they lwork. Please read the link that I gave you.
