Hello guys,

I would like some help here, I'm sponsoring my wife and we got contacted to get the visa on her passport couple of weeks ago and by December we should be in Canada. For sure I'm going to cancel our Gulf residences and leave to Canada, but my question is do I have to stay in Canada during the time my spouse has to spend there?

Thanks in advance.

Once your spouse lands she can leave again. If she is with you outside Canada, that time counts as time towards her 730 day residency obligation, but does not count towards citizenship.

If your spouse stays in Canada you are not restricted to staying with her (they haven't implemented THAT change yet). As a permanent resident of Canada, she has the right to remain there, even without you.

Good luck!
