Hi everybody,

Me and my family are permenant residents of Canada for almost 2 years now (since 2010), We left Canada recently (Feb. 2012) cause I have a Job opportunity in Dubai, my question is should I report my absence from Canada ? and to whom ? I don't know if I'm going to stay in Duabi for a long or short time as it all depends on the job itself, so please advise.

Thanks

No, you don't have to report it to anybody but keep in mind that in order to keep the PR residency requirements, you can not be outside Canada more than 3 years in any 5 year period. Otherwise you will have a problem renewing your PR card when it expires.

Thanks a million Leon...but may I ask how to submit my taxes for 2011 ? and shouldn't I even report to CRA ?

Thanks again

You can do your taxes online using a program such as ufile.ca You must be resident in Canada to make use of their filing online option but you can easily do your taxes online, then print out the forms and mail them in.

If you want to be considered a non-resident for tax purposes, just send them a letter and ask.

good day! I just want to ask about my permanent residency card status, because I stay in canada for just 1 month to get my PR card, I arrive in Canada last august 27, 2011 and I return to the Philippines without getting my PR card because I am studying, i leave Canada last october 3, 2011, my parents told me that my PR card is mailed to them last october 2011, is it okay if they will mailed it to me from canada to philippines?
and also I am still here in Philippines, that means that I stay much longer outside canada, I am planning to go back in canada on july 2012 after my board exam, could this affect my status as a permanent resident?
I am hoping for your immediate response... thank you and God bless!

Yes, that is fine.

No, a short absence from Canada like that will not affect your status. You are allowed to stay outside Canada for up to 1095 days in your first 5 years as a PR.
