Should I Notify IRCC About My Recent Marriage Now or Wait Until My Humanitarian Pathway Application is Approved?

Hi everyone,

I applied for a humanitarian pathway to Canada and have been waiting for over a year to receive the AOR (Acknowledgment of Receipt). During this waiting period, I got married. My spouse, however, will not be accompanying me to Canada as they’ve been accepted to a PhD program in the Netherlands.

I’m wondering whether I should notify IRCC about my marriage now, or if it’s okay to wait until my application is approved. I understand that IRCC needs to be informed about changes in circumstances, but I’m not sure if it’s better to update them immediately or if I can mention it at the end of the process.

Will notifying IRCC about my marriage affect my application?
Has anyone been in a similar situation? What is the best course of action in this case?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Notify them now. Failing to do so is misrepresentation. Misreprsentation will impact your ability to sponsor your spouse in the future and may impact your own PR status.

Do not wait until the application is approved. If you do that, you are committing misrepresentation.
