Hi,
I am currently on five years tourist visa in Canada and soon reaching to 6 month of temporary residence in Canada. I am just wondering to know whether I should leave Canada before the 6 months is over. If yes, What is the most convenient way to leave Canada and enter back into the country?
I would appreciate any advice or comment on my situation

If you want to remain in Canada beyond your allowed six month visit, you should apply for an extension from within Canada.

Leaving Canada and then immediately returning carries a higher risk of refusal.

Thank you for answering my question. I have visa stamp which is valid for five years. Do I still need to apply for extension despite the fact that I have five years visa?

I think you are confusing the TRV that was applied to your passport by IRCC with the stamp (chop) put in your passport at entry into Canada by CBSA (border guards). Your allowed stay is based on the chop, not the TRV. The maximum time allowed in Canada with a TRV at entry is 6 months, typically identified on the chop with no additional date. You will either need to leave at the end of 6 months or apply for the extension. As noted, simply re-entering after a short departure can be viewed as an effort to circumvent the requirements. An extension is the much safer route, allowing you to stay beyond 6months until you receive a decision.

Thank you for clarifying this.
