As the title says. I am still talking about it to my gf if I want to get married to come to Canada from Luxembourg or not.

I got money, I got a steady job, I make money online. Etc.

I was deported in 2007 for over staying and I am now in Canada on vacation 2 weeks with a 6 month visa that was given to me last week.

Should I get a lawyer and pay $2,000 to have them do my paper work or just do the paper work ourselves?

Where would I get these documents to start? I know it would take about 5 to 7 months from Paris location Embassy.

Thank you everyone, hope you all had a merry christmas and will have a happy new years.

Thank you, running down to city hall for more info ;)

If you have a "normal case" ( first marriage/serious relationship, no children involved other than your own, and no previous sponsorship), then you can probably do it by yourself. It takes time and it's tedious to fill out the paperwork, but it's doable.
The only possible "red flag" in your case would be that you had been deported, but obviously it's OK now as you have been granted entry to Canada on the last try.

So I would say - go ahead. fill out the form from CIC website... download and print everything, READ the guideline before you start ( sounds obvious but lots of people don't), and come back here if something is unclear.

You can choose between outland and inland ( read the first post from Leon at the top of the page to understand the difference and advantages, but in most cases for visa-exempt, outland is the best option, and you can be in Canada for that time).

If you have been living together for at least 12 months, then you can apply as common-law. If you haven't, then you would need to get married before she can sponsor you.

Here is the link from CIC http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-how.asp
READ the website and get familiar with everything first, it will save you time.
Good luck,
Sweden

Yes 1st marraige, and yes it's pretty serious been with her for over 11 months. We went to a vacation spot this year, and she came to Europe for over a month, we have no kids. Cause we don't want to stress our selfs out and have kids, and one parent is not there. I didn't have any previous sponsorships at all.

Yeah I got entry in Canada so it would be okay no problems.

I am leaving Canada and filing outland cause it's a lot faster then doing inland, cause inland is not 100% you still might need to leave, and then you got to wait 23+ months for inland and so on. Doing outland! I read Leon's post 3 months ago.

Thank you for the link Sweden! :)

Just to clarify - you can file outland AND remain in Canada if you want, the fact that you are applying outland doesn't mean that you have to be outside of the country. As you are from a visa -exempt country, you could file (once married) outland and stay in Canada as long as the visa is valid. Or if you have only decided to come for a few weeks now, you can get married, apply outland, go back to luxembourg, and come back to Canada on a visitor visa. you probably could get 6 months again, but even if you get less you can apply for an extension (online, at least 30 days before your visa expires) - in that case, include the proof that you have applied for PR ( either the receipt fee copy, or the sponsorship approval if you're done with stage 1), and it should be granted without troubles.

That way, you could apply outland (and have shorter processing times) and still be with your girlfriend/wife during the application process. It's completely legal, and not frowned upon by CIC, a lot of people from visa-exempt country do like this - it allows you to keep on travelling if needed, and it's usually shorter processing time.
Good luck,
Sweden

Well I will have to leave the country anyways cause my country gives out free money lol. So I want to get that money, until I get the visa to be in Canada so I am doing it for the money a bit. Plus I need to do stuff back home before I leave anyways.

I just found out, once I get married, I need to wait for the certificate, I guess I need to send this in with all the paper work no idea how long this will take to get. Yeah I just don't want to get in trouble waiting and then trying to come back in and so on. I read too many horror stories online already. Plus you have to leave anyways, to pick up the visa or papers for PR I believe and come back again.

Oh okay I had no idea from visa exempt country you could do this without problems from CIC. Yeah I will probably come here for the birthday or so.

Thank you so much!

Do you have an address in Canada(you or spouse) so CIC can correspond everytime? Then do not hire a lawyer. They can't make the processing any faster! They cannot get PCC or medicals behalf of you! All the information filled in your application forms are your information, they cannot verify the information. You have all the info you need on CIC website.

Just remember "have them make paper work" is not really practical, becuase all the info belong to you/spouse. You/ spouse still have the pain do 90% of the work yourself!
