hi
I will be moving to canada permanently in january along with my family. We r PR holders. Do I need to get an international driving license issued from India? I heard having this will make it easier to get license easier over there, or do I need to get some other document from RTO in India. I remember vaguely reading on this forum that we need to get a letter from Regional Transport Office which has issued our license that we need to get a letter of Good standing from them. Am I right?
When i enquired at my RTO, they said they will only issue my DL extract?
Can someone guide me on this

Thanks in advance

An International Driving Permit will make no difference to your eligibility for a Canadian provincial driving licence. Which province are you going to? If you are taking up residence, you may only be allowed to use your national driving licence for 60 days. After that, you have to get licenced in Canada.

The period is 90 days in BC.

It is still helpful to have an international driving permit handy in case. However, it makes little to no difference if you want to reside in Canada and apply for a provincial license.
