Should I fill out Use of Representative form (5476)?

Hello!

I'm a Spanish citizen currently living with my wife (a Canadian citizen by birth) in Canada. We are going to start the process to apply to a PR application through the Family Class and I'm a bit confused as to whether she's my representative or not. We don't have a lawyer or advisor and I'm capable of understanding the forms without her help.

It's up to you and your sponsor. It's handy if you want her to be able to check your application process.
As a sponsor, she can only check her sponsorship status. NOT your portion of application.

I see, thank you! If it's really not that important then I guess we won't appoint her as one because it's one more piece of paperwork to sign.

Now I'm curious though, how would she not be able to check both parts of the application? From what you said it sounds like there are two different ways to check the status of the sponsorship, one for her and one for me, but we are submitting it through my IRCC account. What am I missing?
