Should I apply for visitor's record when my passport is expiring? (New passport arriving soon)

Hello all,

My work visa is expiring in Jan. 9, 2021. I'm planning on changing it to a visitor's record.
I don't know what the exact timeline is but I know biometrics takes time to acquire. I want to apply right now but my new passport has yet to arrive, ETA this month. My current passport has an expiration date of Feb. 20, 2021; I'm afraid that it would affect their decision if they see my passport is expiring soon. Should I wait for my new passport or should I apply right away? I have an official receipt for my new passport application that I could maybe attach.

1. If you applied now, any extension would be to the expiry date of your current passport, if granted.

Thank you for the reply. That’s what I thought so too. I guess I should wait for my new passport then.
