should I apply for LMIA now?

Hi everyone.
I am currently working on my PGWP which is valid till 2019. My employer kindly offered to apply for LMIA for me.
Of course, I truly want the 600 points. Without LMIA, I am only 420 points with master degree.

The thing I worried is that once I got LIMA, my PGWP will become invalid and I am only allowed to work for only one employer.
Should I wait on the LIMA application?

Why would your permit become invalid? My husband got his LMIA and it didn't effect his permit. In fact, he actually extended his permit AFTER he got it. His LMIA is PR specific so only used to apply for PR. It meant that it was only valid for 6 months so we just needed to make sure we got the PR app in before it expired.

Gt LMIA via your employer, but you dont need to update ur permit. U can continue working from him with ur open work permit.

If you want your Permanent Residency (P.R) soon than you accept that lmia, if you are already permanent resident you don't need LMIA.

An LMIA = "Labour Market Impact Assessment" is the process used to determine whether an employer can hire a foreign worker. For most foreign workers, the LMIA is a requirement to obtain a Temporary Work Permit, but it is not an actual work permit.

There are two types of LMIAs - one that can be used by a foreign worker to get a work permit, and one that can be used to support a worker's permanent resident application. You want the latter -

You can hold multiple work permits. At one point, I had 2 LMO (predecessor to the LMIA) permits and a NAFTA based permit. All with different employers and different expirations. Another time I had a LMO permit, NAFTA permit, and a LMIA permit.

That is because CIC/IRCC does not issue LMIAs, ESDC does, through Service Canada.

Since you already have a work permit valid for 3 years, your employer should apply for the LMIA to support Permanent Residency - it does not cost $1000 (like the LMIA for a temporary work permit).
