Shortage of Canadian dollars

I will be settling down soon, but now I am having problems with buying Canadian dollars in my home country (they are not that popular). Will it be OK if I arrive with US dollars instead (over 10k in cash)?

Can you imagine any problems this might cause?

No problem. Once you arrived in Canada, you can go to a bank to sell your US dollars to Canadian. Other than US, you can also bring Euro, british pound, Hong Kong dollar, $AUD and RMB.

If more than $10,000 Canadian in value, make sure you declare them at the port of entry.
