Hi I know this might be a stupid question to many of you but I just wanna make sure...

My PGWP expires May 2013.

I planned to go to the states for a 2-3 days short trip early April.

CEC in process. Medical done early Mar.

When I re-enter Canada, is my PGWP (expires in May 2013) enough for the border officer to let me go?

Saw some comments in this forum suggesting that there might be risks to leave Canada while CEC is in process...please kindly advise.

No issue. Just make sure you are back before the permit expires ;)

Nothing is ever guaranteed, as you may be asked demonstrate that you plan to leave Canada after May 2013.

The Canadian government recognizes dual-intent, but re-entry is always subject to the discretion of the immigration officer at the border.

For goodness sake... What on earth...

Look... If you turn up at the border and tell them you plan to stay in Canada even after your border expires - you will have a problem.

If you are honest, answer their questions truthfully and make it clear you will be returning before the permit expires, you will have no problem.

You are only going to the US for a couple of days, it's not a big deal.

Not suggesting that it is a big deal, but it is always wise to be on the prepared side just in case. There's always an additional risk travelling with soon-to-expire status, and you never know what kind of border officer you will encounter.

Having proof of funds to show that you can pay for a flight to return home on you could save you a lot of headaches if you do run into someone who might ask for it - that's all I am suggesting.

One thing that I said (which was true for me back then) when I moved from San Francisco to Vancouver; is that I'm not American, nor am I Canadian. My funds are all back in my home country (and I had only lived in the States for 9 months, not like I've been there 3 or 4 years), which I transfer between my two accounts. In order for me to provide any proof of funds letter (which my banks only give to me - in person), I would have to fly back home to get it. It made sense to them. And I got through ;)

Okay so I am done the short trip last weekend and came back from the states last night.

The border officer did ask me something about my soon to be expired PGWP, like whats my plan and when I am going to submit the extension/change of status etc...

I told him I am going to file a BOWP app the coming week and he says "okay, good to know that". And he let me go.

Thanks for you guys' comments ;D
