Greetings,

I'm making a very short trip from the US to Canada purely as a tourist (the primary goal is to round up my mileage with my air carrier and I found a great rate!). The last leg of my flight is from Seattle to Edmonton and I have either the choice just to stay overnight (technically 2 days in country), or a total of 5 days. Both possibilities involve staying for Christmas, thus returning to the USA on the 25th. If it doesn't matter, I might surely enjoy staying the 5 days, because two of them would be travel days anyway.

Please answer both questions. . .
I have a passport. Do I need a VISA for:

1) an overnight (= 2 day) visit?

OR-

2) a 5 day visit?

3) Do I need proof of $ for my stay, or should I just show them some US "long green" (dollars) or "Canadian Dollars?"

Thanks for your responses in advance and 8) ;) Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to our Neighbors to the North! ;D ::)

Are you a citizen of the US? If you are the I don't think you need a visa to be able to enter Canada. Normally citizens of the US are granted 6-month stay barring inadmissibility issues.

Greetings,

Yes, I am a US citizen. Thank you for the response. I also had the opportunity to peruse the main area of this website and learned that indeed, the United States is one of the exempt countries, thus any US citizen may travel as a tourist within Canada without a Visa for up to 6 months. Well done.

It looks like Canada for Christmas, and "Gold" status on Alaska Airlines. I was only 2,000 miles short. ;) Edmonton will put me there with an easy 3,000 miles+.

Thanks for the response,
