Hello everybody,
I am writing here because I have a doubt regarding the short-term (120-day) work permit exemption for researchers (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/foreign-workers/researcher-exemption.html).
At the moment, I still do not have a research job offer so my plan was to come to Canada as a tourist in order to visit some relatives and then start working under this exemption when I receive my job offer. However, I have just noticed that it is written: "The intent of this exemption is to attract specialized foreign researchers for short periods of time. Therefore, only foreign nationals outside Canada are eligible for this exemption".
Therefore, my questions are: can I still be considered under this work permit exemption if I am in Canada as a tourist? If not, what can I do to be eligible for the exemption? Should I leave and re-enter the country with the job offer? And does the fact of being in Canada as a tourist cancel my eligibility for the exemption? Thus, should I avoid coming to Canada before receiving my job offer?
I hope somebody could help me clarifying my doubts on this topic. Thank you so much in advance.
