18 months after sending in his application for criminal rehabilitation, my partner, who is an American wanting to enter Canada, was told that his misdemeanor is "serious criminality" in Canada. We sent in the additional $800 to continue processing.

At that stage, how long does it normally take? Is it just a formality, or should we expect it to be another year?

We applied to Buffalo, but not in the context of a permanent residence application. It is solely an application for rehabilitation.

What was the nature of his crime that would cause a misdemeanor to be considered serious criminality? Also, Were you advised not to file the application concurrent to a visa? Going through the same thing and I just curious if we'll face the same issue. Thanks!
