September 2015 Inland Application

I've looked on the forums (and government websites, but it not too clear).
I am a Canadian citizen who is sponsoring my common law spouse. She sent out her inland application a few weeks ago.
She is from Japan and is gainfully employed , working here for about 1-1/2 years (with the proper visas and permissions).
I know there are no 100% accurate answers, but in the websites I've looked at the answers seem so varied to the questions.
At this time, what would be the average, expected wait time for application processing and approvals ? (all medical and security forms included in application.)
My common law wife will not be leaving the country while the application is in progress. Is this the correct approach ?
Will the CIC website actually give us a progress report (how far a long and at what stage) ? or will it simply tell you when the application process has been completed ?
Thanks

Hello!

You might want to check out the "Family Class Sponsorship" subforum (sorry, I'm not allowed to post links yet.)

The current waiting time seems to vary wildly, but you should expect around the 27 months advertised on the CIC website.
Medicals are not required to be done ahead of sending the application, and it's generally recommended that you wait until it's requested by CIC as that avoids the situation where it's outdated when they start processing the application.
If you apply inland she isn't supposed to leave the country until the application is finished.

Note however that it's possible to do an outland application while she's staying in Canada.
Submitting the application to the Manila office would shorten your application timeline significantly. The only downside to this is that she may be required to attend an interview abroad.

As for website updates, you will generally receive communication via email (or snail mail if you don't provide any email address) before anything on the website is updated.

I hope that helps :)
