my wife applied to sponsor me in november 2009, CIC sent us a letter in April 2010 saying they sent our application to local Vancouver office,
and that they would be in touch with us, if they needed more information from us. we went there last week and they said they are still doing a security check on me, and my wife called this week and they said that a local agent from Vancouver Office would most likely take a look at our application in October 2010(she said processing time would be six months from time our papers arrived at local office) and may request an interview but could give no further information, as to why it is taking so long to process our application. What could be the issue? they have not even sent us a letter approving my wife to sponsor me yet. What are they verifying? do they not believe us?

They usually do a local interview if CIC are not sure about the application.

If CIC feel the marriage is not genuine or that there are some inadmissibility problems.

These interviews can hold up an application for years in some cases, although Vancouver is one of the quicker offices.

It is what every inland sponsor dreads to be honest, as you are left on hold, having to stay in Canada but only on the visitor status.

Keep your fingers crossed that your interview will be a quick one. Good luck.
