Folks,

I am in a serious confusion. Yesterday I received a letter from CIC inviting me for Citizenship Test on July 02, 2014 at Vancouver location. However, I am moving to Toronto and will be leaving on 28th June driving cross country! I am skeptical to inform CIC about postponing my test. I do not know the consequences of it.

Is is okay to inform CIC about the move and requesting to postpone the test? What are the consequences due to that? OR Shall I postpone my move and write the test first and then move.

Please advise.

I have exactly the same case in the same location and the same venue, except that I am moving to Alberta. I called CIC and they said that if I change the address a delay of 3 months will take place. I changed my travel plan and decided to travel on the 3rd!

I have not received the letter though. I only saw the status online.

May I ask you about your timeline?

Hey,

Thanks for being the same boat!!! I applied in November 2013 --> In Process from mid-January 2014.

Do you know if you have to be present at the same location where you write your test for OATH ceremony? If that is the case then I may end up in trouble if I delay my move and write the test on the said date.

Although I am not 100% confident, I think you can have the oath at a different office than the one you had the test at. I would call CIC to inquire!

Is the move urgent?
I would postpone my move 5 days. It's better than being delayed. Plus you don't want any suspicion to avoid a RQ.
You can ask your employer if you could move your start date to a different day. It's not the end of the world. And I don't see this being an urgent situation or a serious issue.
Let me know what happens with you :)
PS. I am driving cross country from Montreal to Calgary end of this month :D So we will be driving in opposite direction.

Yes. I am thinking to delay my move. The only concern is what after the test - that is OATH. It would be expensive to fly back from Toronto to Vancouver and I have a family application.

Its interesting that you are also driving cross country. The only slow part is Northern Ontario - single lane roads for about 1500 kms!

My application is family, and I will postpone my travel for the test. My wife and I will then fly for the oath. I find the money paid on this worth finishing the citizenship issue!

Yeah, thats what I am thinking too! It is worth spending airfare compared to indefinite and uncertain wait!!! Still I will call CIC to ask if it is possible to request Oath in a different location.

A friend of mine had his test in Vancouver, and they took note during the test of his new address in Newfoundland so that they can call him for the oath there. They still called him for the oath in Vancouver :)

basharar, no need to ask these questions. If you have suggestions please share. People are different and their priorities are different.

I tottaly agree, everyone is free to do whatever they want, but delaying such important event, is asking for a RQ, don't you agree?!

What I have learned from this forum is that delaying an oath event is not recommended. However, a May'13 applicant had asked to move the oath date because of his expensive non-refundable vacation and the CIC office cooperated. There is a risk for sure. I myself am going to move from Montreal. I know I will have to travel back for the oath. I will not delay. I will spend the money. But that's a personal choice I've made.

Good for you! There have been other reported cases on this form of people getting an RQ because of this, it's like playing Russian roulette if you ask me!
