I would really appreciate any insight or feedback on my situation:

I have been in Canada for 7 years now. First as a student and after graduation from a Canadian university/now working on a post graduate work permit expiring in 2012.

I applied under FSW2 on October 22nd, got my PER on February 16th and my E-cas status reads received by visa office.

Well, I just got accepted into grad school, in the same city where I currently live in Canada, to start my Masters degree in September. This would mean that I have to apply for a study permit. So I have a few questions:

1) Can I keep my PGWP and get a study permit at the same time?
2) Will getting a study permit and starting grad school in September have an impact on my PR application? I applied under FSW2 with arranged employment from my current employer.

My visa office is Buffalo, which is apparently notorious for longer processing times. If my PR case is not finalized by September, what are my options?

PLEASE give me your feedback!

Much appreciated.

Yes, if you quit your job before you have landed, your arranged employment is no longer valid and you loose your eligibility.

Options:
You could ask your graduate program if you can defer admission until your PR is finalized.

You don't say how long you have been working, but if you have one year of post-graduation work experience in a skilled occupation (NOC O, A,or B) you could be eligible to apply under CEC. You don't need to remain employed once you have qualified for CEC.

Once you get your graduate degree, you will have other options (PNP programs), but you probably don't want to wait that long...

Thank you Jes. I will complete one year of work experience on June 28th. School starts in September. I was thinking of the CEC option this morning. I think I will apply early July under CEC as a backup plan.

Also, I will continue in my job but only part time. Will that work?

I just hope I hear from Buffalo for my current application before September, at least the second AOR.

No, unfortunately, part-time does not count for arranged employment... It's possible you will get a response in time, but I would go ahead and submit under CEC anyway...

Hi Jes_ON,

I called CIC today and I was told that I can keep both the PGWP and the study permit at the same time. PGWP is a one time thing, and after finishing Masters I cannot apply for another one. However, they told me they don't know what impact going back to school would have on my PR application (submitted under FSW2- arranged employment) and that I should inquire about this with the Visa Office (Buffalo). I will wait until August and see what happens at the Visa Office front, if there is no movement, I will apply under CEC and get a study permit.
