Hi ,

I got approval from Sydney,NS and wondering whether I should appear IELTS.

Togatehr with my spouse I think we calculated the point to be 73, and also keeping fact that we are not native speaker of English.

And, now i am wondering do I need to take IELTS, If needed I can, but i am in the middle of my semester and aslo I am trying to send my app asap ( got approval from NS on June 9th) and want to mail the documents by at least july 15th.

IS it a good idea to delay the app for IELTS or send IELTS score later on.....dont want to take any risk though.

You better take the IELTS and note you have only 120 days to send a complete application. You should read the following about incomplete/inconclusive applications. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2009/ob120.asp

Definitely YES! Take IELTS. You still have 120 days, so you better hurry up call your nearest IELTS center and reserve for the next available test date. Its better to send it on later time and process your application rather than immediately send your package to visa office and return it to you due to incompleteness. Its up to you if you wanna take the risk.

when you calculated 73, you assumed some value for language. You need to prove that to them and the best way to do that is through IELTS. Don't take the chance. I took the chance of not doing IELTS but with hindsight, I know I should have done it.

Hi All,

Thanks for the valuable and possibly mishap saving suggestions.
What I thought is since Sydney,NS evaluated I dont need to worry about it, but those are best faith statement made by ourself-- and we need to prove those. In English's case through IELTS or some other way. I thought I am going to write a letter saying I am BE( Prod-Ind),MS (USA) and my wife M.A. (Eco - India) and MBA(USA-- good institute). We all had taken TOEFL and my wife had take ESL class to prove that we are good with English. But as you guys suggest why take risk... its better to take IELTS.

@rupeshhari, excellent point, as I check to see whats the bottom line. I kept my language proficiency to the lowest and I saw that I came short on point. When I made Speak,Read, and Listen high proficiency i get point 71/73.
SO I guess Its better to take IELTS.

THE MILLION $ question is how much I have to get to prove high proficieny on those three sections....and how difficult it to make it. and What if I got less....in tems of band how much i need to get in those 3 sections....

Thanks in advance...

Hi, I do not have the link anymore but there was a case on trackitt.com where the applicant was given ZERO for language proficiency by CIC after he submitted other proof of ability other than language test, i.e. IELTS. Of course, he fell below 67. I think he would have made it if he was assessed even just basic proficiency by CIC.

yeah! general it is...

and dont worry about your semester. you'll do good...

it's very easy actully...

I went there unprepared. Had just browsed through the expected format the last night so that i'm not caught unprepared. claiming 16 points... so, it should be a cakewalk since you have 6 points to spare.

IS there anyone who can shade some lights on conversion of IELTS score to Language points given in the eligibility test?

If i am claiming high/med/low proficiency in English, what score I have to get in IELTS.

As other people have said, it's better to take IELTS or you are leaving it up to the visa officer what points they give you, if any. There are many cases of people who've tried to prove their language proficiency with something other than IELTS getting less points than they claimed or even zero points.

It is also better to take IELTS before you apply (that is for people who haven't applied yet and are thinking about this) because if you take it before, you will know exactly how many points you have. If you aim to take it later and end up getting less points than you need, you may not have time to take it again within the 120 days and may lose your application for lack of points.

You can find how IELTS scores are calculated into points at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG72.asp

Dear all,
Without considering for Language, I am at 65 points. I've been in Canada for last year and a half and I've been in IT field for the last 8 years and I have a PG MBA as well. My studies and job has always been in English.

I need only 2 points for English ... Do you think I might get zero points in spite of the letter that I am sending to the Visa office ?

Thanks for your response !

Yes, it is possible that they will give you zero points if you don't take IELTS and send a letter. It has happened to other people.
