Seeking Advice on PGWP Reconsideration

Hello Everyone,

I was issued a 1-year PGWP after completing a 2-year undergraduate certificate program at the UofS. The program curriculum was short, allowing us to finish in 11 months.

When I applied for my PGWP in June, I included a letter of explanation stating that the program was accelerated and this was why I completed it in 11 months. However, I did not attach a letter of enrolment I generated during my last term — which confirms that I was in the first year of a two-year program.

To add to my confusion, a friend who took the exact same program (started and finished at the same time) received a 3-year PGWP. This discrepancy led me to submit a web form to IRCC requesting a reconsideration, explaining that their guidelines entitle me to a 3-year permit for completing a two-year program. In my submission, I was careful to remain respectful and acknowledged that the decision ultimately rests with the visa officer. I also highlighted that my study permit was valid until July 2026, while the PGWP I received expires in November 2025.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t attach my letter of enrolment via the web form as there was no option to upload supporting documents. I'm now considering sending a follow-up email with the letter attached, but I don't want to come across as pushy or desperate. I would love to hear from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation or has advice on the best way to proceed.

Thank you!

With accelerated programs you run the risk of being awarded PGWP based on length studying. You can ask for reconsideration but it is left up to the VO’s discretion.
