Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to get some advice on next steps after having my Canadian visitor visa application refused.

A bit of background: I applied for a visitor visa to Canada a few months ago. Unfortunately it was refused due to a lack of truthfulness - I did not disclose that I had previously been refused a US visitor visa around 6 years ago. This was not an intentional omission on my part, I had genuinely forgotten about the old US refusal since it was so long ago.

The visa officer determined I was not forthcoming and refused the application under misrepresentation. I want to note that I was not given a 5 year ban, since I believe the officer understood it was not an intentional attempt to mislead.

Now I am wondering what my options are to still visit Canada. Should I submit a new application and include full details of the previous refusal? Or should I request reconsideration of the original application with additional details provided?

If I do submit a new application, what are the chances it would be approved given the prior refusal? I want to follow the proper procedures to correct my mistake and demonstrate I am a genuine visitor.

Any advice from folks who have experience with refusals and next steps would be greatly appreciated! I really want to visit Canada soon and hope this can be resolved.

Thank you!

If you want to reapply, it's a brand new application. You will need to make sure you declare both the US refusal and your recent Canadian refusal.

It's really impossible for any of us to comment on your chances of approva. Too many factors at play. The two refusals will certainly work against you so you'll want to put together a strong application showing strong ties to your home country and sufficient proof of funds to cover the costs of your trip. Suggest you keep your trip to 2-3 weeks max.

Just to be clear, do not request reconsideration. Reconsideration is for situations where the applicant believes there application was incorrectly refused. Your application was correctly refused. You failed to declare a past refusal. That is a serious matter.

Thank you. I have a legitimate, verifiable business and substantial personal assets, including over $60,000 CAD in savings and property ownership. My main concern is that the visa officer reviewing my new Canadian visit application may deny it solely because of my previous failure to declare. I want to be fully transparent this time to demonstrate that I have strong ties to my home country and no intention of overstaying the visit.
