STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

To, Date: 20-07-2021

The Visa Officer, Canadian Consulate

Respected Authority,

I, Samuel Sharma, request you to consider my application and grant me a study permit of Canada. I am pleased to inform you that I have secured admission for a Master in Business Administration at the University of toronto.

Educational background
To give you information about my educational background, I completed my higher secondary education at DAV Public School in 2016. I completed my 4-year Undergraduate degree program in 2020 with 87% (and first-class with distinction) from SRM Institute of Science and Technology.

In my academic curriculum, undergraduate are encouraged to learn both management and technical fundamentals. I lean towards the management side more because I always desire to enter the business industry. My 4-year bachelor’s degree not only gave me knowledge about the fundamentals of the industry but also provided a basic understanding of management and marketing through courses such as Marketing management, Industrial training, Soft skills, Employability skills, etc. To increase my knowledge, I learned different software and programming languages used in the industry such as MS office, python, Matlab, etc. Apart from academics, I managed many events in my university, which helped me to acquire certain skills like leadership, financial management, decision making, negotiation, etc. In my second year, I interned as a Data Analyst Intern at Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd where I assisted them to analyze all the data. For my final year project, my data handling and finance management skills played a notable role in my major project.

Internship:
Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd: I underwent a four-week training from 1/5/2018 to 1/6/2018 in the “3 cylinder engine” at Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd. My role was to observe and provide data analysis for the Long Block leak testing machine (LBLT), where I had to collect all the data from the machine. Based on the collected data, I had to offer them the idea to improve the engine test process and after how many engines that part required maintenance. Furthermore, I also worked in close contact with the HR department and was able to gain relevant skills in management and human resources.

Other activities during the pandemic:
I completed various online courses related to MBA like business foundation, financial market, etc. Apart from that, I also helped my family business during the pandemic by using my knowledge and data analysis skills to manage all the logistical data like product quantity, expiration of the products, etcetera. Before data analytics, we don’t know how much good we stored in our stores but with data analytics, we know exactly how much good we have and how much we are required to maintain the demand.

Family Background
I hail from a close-knit family consisting of my parents, one younger brother, and me. My mother and father have their own business. My brother is currently doing his Bachelor's in computer science engineering. We live in Himachal Pradesh and have our movable and immovable properties in Himachal Pradesh. My family is very supportive of my decision to pursue higher studies in Canada. Now that the pandemic restrictions are relaxed, I wish to apply for a study permit and student visa for beginning my graduate studies in MBA at University of toronto.

Why Canada

Canada is one of the top few countries in the world to pursue an MBA, and hence was my only choice for pursuing graduate studies. Studying in Canada will provide me a world-class education and give me the exposure I need to grow professionally. Canada is also one of the safest and peaceful countries in the world. It allows students to experience a culturally diverse lifestyle. Canadian universities offer programs that are at par with the current industry requirements. Getting an education from Canada enhances the employability of students after completion of graduate studies. Canadians are welcoming and respectful towards international students. All these factors make Canada my preferred choice.

Why University of Toronto?
The University of Toronto is one of the finest public research universities in Canada. This incredible university offers a holistic work-integrated environment for students enrolled in various programs. Thus students are given the exposure of learning a perfectly balanced curriculum between theoretical concepts and practical applications. Studying at the University of Toronto will offer me an excellent experience in terms of education and cultural mix. I will get the opportunity to collaborate with students and professors with loads of experience. Taking all the above points into consideration, I decided to pursue a masters business administration from the University of Toronto

Why a degree in Master in Business Administration (MBA)?

A Master’s degree in Business Administration is an advanced program. It focuses on business, leadership, digital marketing, and innovation in the field of global business. When companies hire in India, they prefer candidates who have a specialization and can lead to managerial tasks. Also, the salary scale for most jobs depends on multiple factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skill set, experience level, company size, job profile, and this degree will help me to achieve all that. Most MNCs and global brands recruit candidates who possess a sound technical background with business management skills. Naturally, MBA degree holders come first in the list since they are well-versed in the nitty-gritty of the business domain. Therefore, I am excited to pursue this course to gain practical knowledge in the sub-domains of digital marketing, marketing management, data visualization, integration, and implementation. I aspire to pursue this course to learn all the above mention skills to hold a great job in my native country.

Why not in India

India is the 2nd most populated country in the world and a large part of this population comes under 25 years of age and most of them are students. In comparison, the number of good institutes like IIM, IITs which provide a well-recognized education is very less. So the competition is so high that every year millions of students try to get admission in these prestigious institutes while only a few thousand get successes. All this hassle to get admission required a lot of patience and the local Indian college’s MBA degree is not worth it for high-profile jobs.

That’s why I have decided to study at a foreign university. This will fulfill my desire of getting a well-recognized quality education at a good university. My study in Canada will give me a lifetime opportunity to study in an English-speaking country with people from different cultures and backgrounds.

Language ability

My entire education has been in English. Throughout my schooling, I have scored well in all my subjects, including English. I can fluently read, write, and speak in English and cope with a Canadian education. I scored an overall 7 out of 9 in my IELTS exam. My band scores are 7.5 in reading, 8.5 in listening, 6.0 in writing, and 6.5 in speaking. My score meets the academic requirement of the program at the University of toronto. It also satisfies the visa office prerequisite for applying under the Student Direct Stream

Financial Qualifications

I have paid my first-year tuition fee of CAD 16,848 and have obtained a GIC of CAD 10,000 from CIBC Bank. I have secured the financial resources required to live in Canada.

The relevant documents are attached for your reference.

Return to India / Future Plans

My intention in pursuing a Master in Business Administration is to learn the latest techniques used in this industry to secure a steady job in India. After completing my graduate studies, I will have immense career opportunities in Indian companies like Wipro, Reliance Industries Limited, Cognizant, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Deloitte, and etcetera.

With the ever-growing demand for business management many MNCs companies like Deloitte, Amazon, etc. hiring MBA candidates for marketing management, Finance management, etc. I am confident that my International MBA qualification will give me an edge over the others and help me to secure great jobs in strategic and leadership roles of these companies’ finance, marketing and management division.

I have no plans to settle in Canada, leaving behind my caring family, old friends, and a promising career in India. There are plenty of career opportunities in India for me after this course.

Summarizing all the above, I request you to grant me a study permit and student visa required to pursue my graduate studies at the University Toronto.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

Samuel Sharma

Please remove your name, dont show that in this forum dude. Also there are spelling mistakes in SOP. It should be 'goods' not good for materials in shop. Toronto and not 'toronto'. There should not be any bold wordings. It needs lot of changes. Please check other SOPs and rewrite it.

STUDY
It's a good SOP but just correct spelling mistakes, and add a little more detail about your plans to return to India. MBA is a very general degree so it helps to be specific. You also haven't mentioned why you did BTech and why you are switching, you should present a natural transition in your study plan.

Avoid the use of "I" as it is unnecessarily used at many places. Instead, the use of indirect method is suggested

Some suggestions (If you agree with it)

Use "I have been offered" than "I have secured"

Use "there is a need" than "I need"

Use "first-year tuition fee has been paid" than "have paid my first-year tuition fee"

Use "financial resources have been secured" than "I have secured"

Use "academic curriculum offered for this course" than "my academic curriculum"

Use "English has remained language of instructions for my education since..."than "My entire education has been in English"

Use "I am able to ...." than " I can fluently read"

List is big, you can easily see it..

Use of this style is very common in your SOP which needs little rectifications. I.e

"Most MNCs and global brands recruit candidates who possess a sound technical background with business management skills." This can rephrased as "Candidates with sound technical background with business management skills have advantage over....."

Also I suggest avoid the use of "I always desire", which shows your rigidness/interest for this particular course/field. After reading this, VO can easily question you the same thing as said above "why you did BTech and why you are switching", and why you missed this opportunity at undergrade level. Instead try to integrate the benefits/knowledge from courses you have taken in undergrade + industrial experience you have gained during the internship.

In your SOP, you can also include if you applied for job(s) in past and you were rejected mainly due to lackings in a particular tool/course and which you are going to gain/learn in your intended MBA program in Canada. This can highlight the need for going for this particular course.

You include all the efforts you put in finding this course. Also include if you applied for similar courses at other universities in canada or abroad(even if your application was declined).

Good luck for your application.
