Hello, Im born and bred in Scotland and currently working overseas in the oil and gas industry on a 28 day on / 28 day off rota.
I wish to move to B.C with my wife and 2 young children aged 4 and 6, does anyone out there have a similar experience? I dont have any Canadian family but I do have friends over there....
I have been looking into it and it seems quiet difficult as I dont have a job offer in Canada but I earn around $150K CAD and would have around $250K CAD in the bank when I move to help set up housing etc. I also have a B.Eng in Mech and Elec Engineering......

Is my only way of getting into canda finding a job there or are you still allowed to work outside the country??

Thanks in advance :)

Oil and Gas jobs are more in Alberta. Try for a job in Alberta.

This is true, but depending on the type of experience you have, with your education and native English speaking ability, you should also look into the foreign skilled worker program. You probably qualify.

I already have a job overseas 28 / 28 so I dont wish to work in Alberta if I can help it. I would like to continue working in Asia but live in BC on my months leave....is this possible or do I need to work in Canada to be allowed to live in the country?

Cheers

There are programs such as the federal skilled worker program that allow you to obtain permanent residence without getting a job in Canada. Your situation is unique and I'm not sure how it would be viewed. However they won't ask you about this in the application so might as well try.

Hello mate,

Looks like you could apply through the Federal Skilled Works Program with your education and savings!

Sorry, I'm not allowed to post links, probably because it's my first post but you can find more info about occupations and to see if you match one on the Canadian cic website and view the eligible occupations in the Federal Skilled Workers section.

Possibly NOC number: 2145 Petroleum Engineers?
More details about that one here: www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/ProfileNocCode.aspx?val=2&val1=2145&val17=2145&val18=0&val19=0

You can use the NOC numbers to search for more info and skills you need to match so you can apply.

Cheers.
