Hey guys,
I’m new to the forum. I am applying for Canadian study visa and yesterday I went for my medical examination. Everything went on well except for the last section where we get examined by a doctor. She noticed the scars I have in my left arm and made a note of it on my file.
The cut wounds were self inflicted but it was out of impulse nothing serious. I’m not suicidal or crazy. But I’m afraid if my report would have issues because of this.
PS: I didn’t reveal that it was self inflicted because I just happen to tell her the same reason I told everyone else who notices the scar that it was a minor accident. I’m really worried.

Don't worry. I have similar case too, cut marks on my arm. The physician took a good look at it and grilled me with heaps of questions. She asked how long ago was it? I go, 'ohhh been at least 2 decades when I was a teenager. You know, teenage craze blah blah blah.' and then she goes, what kind of material I used, did I get infected etc etc. She took long notes. It never was a concern till she took the notes. I was worried.

End result, I passed medical and got study permit approved.

Don't worry.
All the best!

Listen, their job is to scare you and make you feel nervous! That's what they do MATE!!!!! Don't stress. It's mainly the infectious diseases, TB, STI/STDs, Cancer, applicants who are on long term medications/on going expensive treatments etc are big concerns for the CIC. Other than that, you would be fine.

Let me know, how you go with your application. I am guessing in a week, your medical status would be updated to PASSED!

Good Luck!

It is very important that you try to deal with your mental health issues for the next couple of years because self-mutilation can be a concern when you are doing a medical for PR. It is also very unhealthy copying meachanism and you should seek help to treat the underlying problem. The medical for a student visa is in general more lenient because you are not entitled to care forever in Canada. In Ontario you aren't even covered under the provincial system. The mental health system is very overwhelmed in Canada and unfortunately don't think you are fooling any doctors if you say your cuts are due to accidents.

Like I already mentioned I’m not having any mental health issues. I’d really request you not to make judgments without knowing the person and their history. I was simply asking about the medicals. I wasn’t fooling anyone but just saving myself from embarrassment. I think any living breathing human is entitled to self esteem. I hope you understand.

Yep! I can relate. My scars are not too obvious but I will get temporary tattoo over it so next time when I get medical they don't grill me.

If Self inflicting is a concern then I would judge those people who are heavy drinkers, chain smokers, drug users, junk food consumers!! They are all harming their health #biggestLosers
You're all good hun! Don't worry!

Self-multilation is an actual mental health condition defined by the DSM. I find it very disturbing that you are acting like it is something everyone does and it is no big deal. I am telling you that you should seek treatment so you can deal with your health. It is something to be taken seriously. If you deal with the underlying issues affecting your health then you are unlikely to have newer scars (past 3-5 years) when it comes to the time where you want to apply for PR. It is always best to be upfront with your doctor about your past struggles and explain what you have done to deal with your health versus the doctor noticing and thinking that you have not sought out treatment.

My teenage daughter too having the same problem, self inflicted wounds, the reason why she need a psychiaratic tests by end of this month. As a parent, I am not aware that she's been on a hardtimes cause I am living abroad . And this is our final stage, a medical requirements for our permanent residency application so I can take them here. She said that she was bullied and she cant manage it, the reason why she did this just to minimize the emotional hurts shes suffering.
Any advise how to deal this. I am so worried that maybe she will failed it and make the refusal for our application.

I am very sorry to hear that yiur daughter is dealing with this. I am glad to hear that you are arranging treatment for her. Unfortunately I don't have any great advice. You will have to see what happens during the medical and whether the doctor notices. Unfortunately if you end up in Canada you will find that the mental health system in Canada is very strained especially for children and visits to psycholigists are usually only covered by extended health benefits.

I’m worried about my application too. I’m yet to submit my visa application. I was also bullied. It’s so harsh that we have to pay for others wrong doings. I hope your daughter’s visa gets through. Wish me luck too..
