Hi everyone,

Sorry for making a new thread but I'm starting to get nervous and I was hoping somebody could shed some light on something.
We sent in our application in April and got AOR1 on May 19, 2017. I looked that spreadsheet for April applicants and it looks like most of them got sponsorship approval within a couple days or a week after they got AOR1. It's been 23 business days since we got AOR1 and still nothing, so that worries me a bit.

Note: I am sponsoring my wife who lives in the USA.

The other issue is that a week or so ago the website said that my wife was requested a medical exam and to check the messages, but there were no messages about it. Now the page claims that there is action that she needs to take but once again there are no messages. I called the number (1-888-242-2100) and checked the application through that, and it also claims that a medical has been requested. Unfortunately the phone also said that they had too many people trying to call and couldn't direct me to a real person, but even so the phone seemed to indicate that outland applicant's can only check their status through the online site? I can't seem to find a number where my wife could call and talk to a person. This is just frustrating for us and I'm not sure what to do at this point. If anybody could help us out, we would really appreciate it!

Thanks so much!

I think there is backlog happening for those who got AORs or processing in May. There is a relative increase in delays (even PR cards are getting delayed -- what used to be 42 days is now up to 57).

In my experience and the experiences of my friends, what usually happens is AOR 1, then SA, then transferred to VO (and somewhere in between SA and VO, Med request could appear...in my case, it was after VO transfer.) While others may have another experience, that's what we think is usual. So basing it on our experience, it is weird (albeit not the first time I guess) that you got a medical request before SA and before confirmation that file was transferred to VO. Just keep calling the number (I was able to talk to a real person when I called really early in the morning). Or you may call your MP for assistance. MPs cannot change/guarantee the decision of an application (i.e. influence the outcome) but can surely assist in the procedural aspects (making sure that IRCC staff are following procedure.) One of my friends last year did that (called MP) and suddenly they got a better picture on what is happening (and the application went thru the usual and expected step by step process) instead of being in limbo.

I wish you all the best in your application. :)

Try not to compare your timeline to others. Some people move through quickly and other people end up waiting. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. My husband is also from the USA and we did a lot of waiting. (And, yes, it was nerve-wracking!) We filed our application the end of December, but didn't get SA until March. And then we ended up waiting another two and a half months for the background check. But it all worked out fine. It should be fine for you and your wife as well after everything gets sorted. Americans generally don't have a hard time coming to Canada.

I appreciate the replies, thank you it does make me feel a little better.

I would like to clear something up though as maybe it wasn't explained in my first post about the medical exam.

A few weeks ago when my wife logs in to the cic site thing, it had mentioned that they requested a medical exam and to check her messages, but yet there we no messages about the medical exam, no messages at all. I had seen on this forum that this happened to a bunch of people and that they claimed it was a glitch in the system happening to other people. So we left it a few days, and it seemed to go away.
Now at this point when she logs in there is a message that says "Action is required, view messages" or something like that. Yet again, there are no messages about any action that must be taken. When I check the status over the phone, it claims that they requested medical, but the phone and website data doesn't match up.

I guess that's what really has me worried. If they legitimately are requesting something, we want to fulfill it, but this disconnect between the site and the phone confuses me. She took a screenshot of the fact that it says action is needed but there are no messages and filed a report, so we'll see how that goes. I'm just worried that there is some sort of glitch in the system, so I guess I can just keep trying to call them and talk to a real person to confirm if there is an issue or not.

Thanks again!

When you sign into the GCKEY and go to the Application Details page, there is a blue button at the bottom that says View Submitted Application. When you click that button, is there anything on the page? That's where the document requests end up, with an upload button beside each one. If the medical was requested, it should show up there.

If it isn't there, you could try submitting it via webform. That's what other folks have done.

Checking the page, there is no indication on the website that a medical has been requested. "No medical has been requested, you will receive a message with instructions if we need one from you" is what it says beside medical. Something like that anyway. On the "View Submitted Application" page, there is no mention of any additional requested documents at all. I just don't want to go through the trouble of her doing a medical and submitting it if they haven't actually asked for it.

She also hasn't received any emails about medical.

I'm having the exactly same issues and it worries me quite a lot too. :(
We got AOR on may 12th and nothing has happened except for all the disconnect you mentioned between the site and the phone .
I'm really hoping it's just taking longer than other applicants and there is no issue.

Please keep us posted on how they handle the issues. :)
