Rush for OWP or wait and extend temporary status?

My british husband came to live with me in September of this year and since then we have been busy dealing with having a baby. My kinda put our visa on the back burner and now I'm worried that the owp pilot program might not get renewed. We don't quite have all the things we wanted to include in our visa but I'm wondering if its better to just get it all together and send it in before the program ends? Or would it be better to wait for the new year and if it doesn't get renewed, extend his temporary visitor status? We don't have a lot of money saved, would his extension be denied even though he is being supported by me and my family?

I simply did an extension request of a year and sent in the receipt for my spousal sponsorship, as well as proof of income for support with a letter of explanation from him. It was approved with no additional information needed. If you feel that you don't have everything you want to send in, I wouldn't rush it. That is how things get missed and/or overlooked. If you are able to provide a way to support the both of you (in the event the program is discontinued) I would take your time, cross your t's and dot your i's.

I saw in another thread that there was something shared in a facebook group from IRCC that the OWP is going to be staying, just not as a pilot program anymore. There is nothing on IRCC website that states this yet but it looks to just be part of the application process in the future.

The program isn't ending, no need to rush.

You should extend his temporary visitor status anyway, just to be safe.

Awesome, thanks! I've been checking every morning for the past week to see if it's been renewed

If we apply for the OWP at the same time that we apply for the spouse visa, wouldn't he get implied status while the OWP is processing?

Yes, however if your application does get returned he is no longer under implied status, so make sure everything is 100%

I would renew regardless. While the chance of his application getting returned for an error may seem slim, you just dont know, and if that happens he will be out of status.
