Your original nationality. You are still a citizenship of that country.

I asked the same question to AirCanada after posting here, they come up with XXB which is stated at the bottom of the RTD number.

I always say canadian because the document is canadian. If they ask specifically YOUR nationality then its your country of origin. Usually check ins for air canada you need to say canadian for your ticket and use RTD number. Ive never had any problems with that.

Put your answer as your nationality BUT when at the airport they Will call You and process it manually because when they scan the document appears XXX in the code. It happened to me and at the airport they explained that to me. We are in theory, stateless.

Stateless means something very specific so unless truly stateless you a protected person who still has citizenship in another country.

It's not My opinion. Passports have the code of your country of Origin. RTD has XXX where this code must go. So the scanners can't read it. Officer must do it manually in the system as stateless. That's the explanation they gave me.

That is very different than saying “that we are in theory stateless”. This is just a technical work around of the IT system which clearly wasn’t built to accommodate refugees/protected people. You would still have to declare your citizenship unless you are truly stateless.

You know, I read your comments and looks like You like to have conflicts. I was giving some explanation. Just that.

This is my opinion on booking airline tickets only (different from visa applications etc.) and it is similar to what some have said already:

In my experience it depends on the airline. I personally start with looking for the option of refugee or stateless, if that is not available then I choose Canada. I have traveled on Air India, British Airways, Air Transat and Air Canada on my RTD with no issues.

I find that airlines are just looking for what code is on the passport/travel document that you are using to travel during that trip. They are not doing any background checks.

I worked for airlines for many years RTD holder need to put stateless xxx or xxb as they are not Canadian citizens and is shown blank in nationality field and they can’t claim original citizenship without using the original passport that they can’t use any refugee automatically becomes stateless if he is not willing to use or require protection of his original country any other info written would count as misrepresentation and is grounds for entry refusal or deportation on visa applications or boarding being denied.

put the code XXB as the Travel document shows.

Original nationality if you are using national passport and not refugee status.

Canadian only for Canadian Navy blue passport which is indicated on the passport as CAN .
