Revoking PR and eTA approval

Hello,

My father is travelling from Japan on May 26th. I applied for eTA on his behalf recently and got a message that he has a permanent residency status and he would have to revoke it to get the eTA approved. He applied for his PR card 17 years ago but never received it and never renewed it, but he has a Record of Landing.
My questions are as follows;

1) The letter we received says that we have to submit the application to revoke PR status by online. I can complete the application but do I also have to submit the photos online?

2) How long does it take from the time I submit the application to eTA finally being approved? His plane leaves on May 26th from Japan to Toronto.

Thank you for your help!

From what I understand this might work but is only my view :

1)Setup up a MYCIC account in your fathers name

2)Download the renounce PR form and fill it in.

3)Scan in color the completed form with the digital photo positioned in the space provided on the form plus include in the PDF document a scan of the biometric passport page showing your fathers id and passport photo. If you want you can include a letter of explanation in the PDF although might not expedite processing. Most scanner programs allow you to add pages to a scan to create a single PDF else there are PDF editors around that provide for same function.

4) access MYCIC account and believe there you find the appropriate section for ETA and link the reference number given in the ETA refusal letter, then upload the saved PDF document.

At least try this approach cannot guarantee as a process works though so may have to play around with it. As for how long after that before ETA is approved could not say, could be a week or so maybe.

I don't see any mechanism under MyCIC for voluntary relinquishment of PR status.

See http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/voluntarily-renounce.asp

However, it's worth a try and you have nothing to lose by trying the eTA "backdoor".

There is no specific option through MYCIC its is all about linking the ETA refusal in MYCIC and submitting the renounce through that route.

No guarantee still works as heard someone managed it that route last year and the ETA refusal letter specifically implies do it online and MYCIC would be the only way to do that through the MYCIC/ETA route.

Worth a try anyway , the 'link application' option provides to add documents in support of an ETA application which the renounce document would be cross referencing the ETA ref number.
