Returning to Canada for inland spousal sponsorship. What documents do we need?

Hi everyone,

So I'm Brazilian and my fiance is a Canadian citizen. I lived in Canada for 4 months last year (studying and working on a volunteer basis), where we met. He has already been to Brazil once this year and he is returning on May to stay here until July or August. We have already planned our wedding for early July and plan to return together to Canada to apply for my PR under inland spousal sponsorship.

My questions are:

1) What documents must we have for the wedding? I know he needs his birth certificate and a document stating that he's single, signed by the Brazilian embassy. Does he any other documents? Does any of the documents need to be translated? He's arriving at the end of May we want to enter the marriage paperwork until June 1st. How long does translation take? Can it be translated in Canada?

2) I have a tourist visa valid until 2018, can I re-enter Canada with it, when I plan to apply for PR? What documents do I need to show at immigration to proof that our relationship is real? Are they usually ok with a marriage certificate and leave the actual proof of relationship to be dealt with later?

3) I want to work, but I've read on the thread that the OPW takes around 4 months. Can I apply for a work visa before we get married, would it still be valid once I apply for PR under spousal sponsorship?

4) ALSO, we had originally decided for the inland process, but it seems the outland is better? Can we apply for outland if we are both in Canada? My visa won't expire until 2108, but what happens if my permission to stay does while we wait? How long is the wait period for each process?

Thank you!

You should reconsider applying inland. Sao Paulo is (one of) the fastest VO's, you can have your PR before your work permit would even arrive.

Wait, I'm thoroughly confused now. From what I had understood, we would file the inland application IN Canada. Is it actually done in São Paulo? So should we go to São Paulo (I live in the south) before heading to Canada and filing the application in person there? I'm sorry if it seems like an obvious question but I have been going through so many different sources that I'm literally lost on this.

You don't need to go to Sao Paulo. Mail an OUTLAND app to Mississauga; it doesn't matter where you are.

You can come to Canada as a visitor while the app proces

I believe the other poster mis-typed. You should apply OUTLAND. Follow the link on CIC website and get all the forms for OUTLAND.

The other thing you should really start thinking about is how to document your relationship properly, think about proof such as phone call logs, whatsapp conversations, photos, joint finances of any type, insurance policies, even testimonials from friends and family. A quick dating relationship, then a quick marriage, etc...you don't want CIC to suspect that this is a marriage of convenience, which will drag your application very long or worse get turned down. Not to scare you...just suggest that you do proper homework before you begin. A lot of people have posted on this subject, so I suggest you read up on other peoples' accounts.

Good luck.

The other poster didn't mistype anything. Saying "You should reconsider applying inland" means the same as saying "You should consider applying outland". Aquakitty said that rosiep should reconsider his/her decision to apply inland.

Yes, we do have a lot of material on that, which we have already started to compile. It seems the outland process is the best then, that's good to know. One of my main concerns is returning to Canada on my visitor visa. It is possible to do so, and wait for the outland process there, then?
