Returning PR and Healthcard

Hi everyone!

Me and my wife will be returning to Canada in August, 2016. We first landed in Toronto in August, 2014 and stayed for a few weeks. We received our SIN numbers and PR cards were mailed to us by family friend. We did not apply for a health card and went back.

We have the following queries and seek guidance

1) As we have stayed almost two years outside Canada, so would it be any issues coming back.

2) We are expecting a baby and my spouse would be 20 weeks when we land in August 2016. I have been told that the waiting period for health card in Ontario are 3 months. Hence we are planning to land in Alberta where heath card is provided on the first day (please correct me if I am wrong).Since, we first landed in Toronto in August 2014 for 3 weeks and didn't apply for health card at that time, we are concerned whether the health card will be provided to us in Alberta at the time of arrival.

Waiting, please help!

No, you can stay outside Canada up to 3 years and still be ok for residency obligation.

You are right, if you reside in Alberta you will get healthcare immediately. What you had done previously in Ontario 2 years ago, is not relevant anymore.

Just be aware of the residency requirements for Alberta healthcare. You need to plan to live in Alberta a certain about of time (I think 6 months) before you are allowed to move to another province.
 
1. No, in order to maintain PR status, You must be physically present in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) in every 5-year period.that's means you can spend a total of up to 3 years outside of Canada during a 5-year period, so you will be fine.

2. You won't need to wait Alberta health card for 3 months, but when you apply AHCIP you need to provide Alberta residency, i.e. current utility bills, rental agreement may be submitted as proof of Alberta residency as long as it includes your full name and Alberta address, thats what I did earlier.

1) Can I provide them with bank statement with some temporary address because utility bills/rental agreement might take take some time to get.
2) Would you reccomend any good gyne clinic/hospitals in Calgary?
3) Can visit any clinic for check up or there is waiting time/process to see a gyno

Just last query. Can we land in Toronto first so that my spouse can rest over night and then we get a flight next day to Calgary. Will it affect our application for healthcare in Alberta that we landed first in Toronto and stayed there for a day?

1. You can try.
2. Sorry I don't know any good gyne clinic in Calgary but you can google it.
3. You have to find gyne family doctor first and make an appointment, in my case, I have been waiting to see a doctor and check up only few days

That is fine. They don't care where you were before, they will only care that after you arrive in Alberta you actually live there from that point on.

For one day, they will not care. They will not consider it a move within Canada because you did not settle in Ontario.
