I am a canadian citizen who had declared non resident, thus not taxable in canada now. I plan to return to Canada, and sponsor my common law partner for PR from abroad. This is, I will move back with my partner when her PR is approved. However, there maybe a timing difference between the date she lands and the date I formally return as a resident.
If my spouse is to land and return for packing, etc, will I (the sponsor) be considered as reestablishing my resident status the same date my spouse lands? I need at least 2-3 months to wind up everything here and wondering if my income is taxable in Canada right after my partner lands or should the start date be the date I return as a resident.
