Hi all, I am a new PR and will land from a customs perspective in February. My wife is a Canadian Citizen and will be returning to live there - she's been out of the country over 5 years.
Does anyone know if she also has to complete a BSF186 form or if we can group all of our goods together?
The reason I ask is that I've read on the CBSA website that new immigrants are not charged duty on anything (except the usual alcohol, tobacco etc). However, returning citizens have a limit of CAD 10,000 per item.
Ideally I'd like to claim all the good as my own but as we have some possessions necklace and handbags for example that are worth more than CAD 10,000 it's going to be tough for me to claim them as my own.
Or do you think the CBSA are so liberal that I can say they are mine
