Return ticket for TRV holder?

Hi, kindly help with the information if a temporary work permit visa holder would need to show return ticket at airport? A relative of mine with super visa faced such an issue while boarding. Kindly share your expert opinions. Thank you.

Guess it depends on the immigration officers' procedures from the country of origin.
