A friend of mine said her friend book her trip to stay for a month with her boyfriend who is a Canadian citizen. However when she landed in Canada she was sent along with many others in a different line to be question separately by border officers. She landed at around 8 pm that night and was held until after 12 am after being interrogated about the one month time that she will be staying and other personal, bags searched thoroughly and so on she was the only one left. Upon being released in the country they told her she must return on her return date which was a month later and stamped her passport as usual but this time wrote in the stamped area her return date. Questions: Does this mean that she can"t extend her trip if she wants to, giving that they say visitors have up to 6 months in the country? Does this mean that if she stay pass the one month she overstayed? And if she overstayed can her bf still sponsor her from within?

Visitors CAN be given up to six months in Canada - but there is never a guarantee that they will get the full six months. How long they are allowed to visit is up to the immigration officer they encounter when they enter Canada. Your friend has been allowed into Canada for a month. If she wants to stay longer, she needs to apply to extend her visit in Canada before her visit expires. Information on how to apply for an extension can be found here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

Her boyfriend can still try to sponsor her if she overstays - but this makes the process more risky / complicated and there is no guarantee she will actually be allowed to stay. It would be far wiser to extend her visit so that she can remain in Canada legally.
