Hi everyone,

I need your opinion on this, I lost my student status because I missed the deadline to apply for study permit extension (i know the silliest reason ever). Now, I am on a restoration/grace period. I have one more semester left of my studies (4-year Bachelors Program).

Now the question is, should I apply for restoration of status or new study permit from my home country?

I have been advised by a regulated immigration consultant (University), that it is better to for a new study permit and her reasons were that:

1. I don't have a solid reason for restoration application, like passport expiry etc,
2. Restoration applications are looked upon by higher level of immigration officers. and again they need a very convincing reason for approving.
3. if Refused it could add negative to my profile,
4. New study permit applications are treated more like fresh cases,
5. Overstaying won't have to be explained in detail for a new permit, as I had simply left the country.

Also, in my case is there any point of lawyering up for restoration application? Lawyers are ready to apply for my restoration as they only care for their payment, not about my future.

Did you leave Canada? If you left I think reatorresto is not an option.
What country are you from and how long did it take you to get first study permit?

Restoration can take a very long time, if you are from a country that is quick in study permit its probably better or you might miss your semester.

I haven't left yet, i am in my first month of the period.
It takes about 7 weeks to get new study permit from my country. Fall semester is gone for sure, i am only thinking of winter now i either case.

Restoration doesn't seem ideal for a case like mine.
