I helped my wife sponsored her parents and her two sibling younger brother and sister to Canada back in 2011.. The application didnt get processed until 2016 and the Visa to immigrate to Canada was issue in June 2017.

The family arrived in Canada in July 2017. My wife sister is 22 yrs old at the time of arrival in Canada.

she started working after 2 months and move to another city. 2 yrs ago 2022, she met a guy on a bisa visit and both got married and have kids. She applied to sponsor her husband so he can stay in Canada. As of today, they have 2 boys and I beleived her husband now have PR card as well.

I understand as a sponsor, i’m responsible for the family fiancially for 10yrs.

Question is, if the sibling is mow 29 yrs old and had moved out living in another city on her own all this yeat, and build her own family, am I still responsible for her fiancially if she decide to apply for wellfare or any goverment assisstant if her income is not enough to take care of her spouse and the kids?

I hope that once the person you sponsored decided to live on their own and have their own family, i shoiud no longer have an obligation to fiancially support her if she seek financially assisstant and go on wellfare. I dont think i can support her, her husband and her 2 kids.

I have search all over but couldnt come up with an amswer.

thanks and much appreciate for a respond.

Thanks for the link Scylla. I have read the site before posting. However, I'm not yet clear about what if the sibling now 29yrs living on her own in another city with her spouse and kids, and one day if for unforeseen reasons, she decides to apply for welfare for whatever reason may be, am I still responsible for her financially? I understand if we abuse her etc, but this is the case where she want her own freedom, living in a big city, starting her own family.

Also, her sister arrived in Canada when she was 22 years old back in 2017. Does her sister fall under " Child over 19yrs or age or does her sister fall under " Other relative?
Child over 19 years of age3 years3 years, or until age 22, whichever is longer

Other relative10 years10 years
