Residency status and sponsorship

Hi,

Can someone please help me ..

our PR is valid until Jan' 16 and my wife and children are planning to move to Canada in december this year so they are able to meet the residency requirements. However, due to financial/work commitments I may not be able to go and not likely to meet the residency requirements of staying in Canada for 730 days. My questions are:

1. Is there a way I can renew my PR even if I don't stay in Canada for minimum number of days?
2. As a permanent residence can my wife sponsor me in case my PR is not renewed so I can live in Canada?

1) You can try to return to Canada before your PR card expires. If you are able to enter Canada without being reported by immigration for failing to meet your residency requirement, then you can stay in Canada (without leaving for even a day) for two years straight to meet the residency obligation. Once you have done this you can apply to renew your PR status. If you aren't able to do this, your PR status will likely be lost. CIC sometimes allows people to retain PR status if they have a good reason for being outside of Canada. However financial / work commitments are not accepted as valid reasons for being outside of Canada.

2) Yes - she can. I seriously doubt as the file info is known to CIC or even if it is done it would take hell out of time. So meet the residency obligation that's how it was to meet.

Point 1 above is a new information for me... I was not aware of that...

You can enter Canada before your PR expires and apply for PR card, which normally walid for 5 years, then you can come back leaving your wife and child there , they will receive your card as well as their, then they can post you the card which you can use for your next entry to Canada.......
