Hello,
I am a little unsure about the form "How to calculate Residence".
This is my scenario:

Landing for PR : Nov 18 2011
Left for home country : Dec 05 2011 (17 days in Canada)

Moved to Canada to live: Feb 25 2012
Vacation to home country: March 24 2014 (758 days in Canada)
Back from vacation: April 25 2014 (32 days outside Canada)
Potential Eligibility date: March 29 2015 (338 days in Canada)

Now based on the "only the four (4) years preceding the date of your application are taken into account", I become eligible on March 29 2015 with 1096 (758+338) days to apply.
However, as I was filling out CIT0407E form, I figured that it made me also count half days prior to my 4 years - i.e half of 17 days that I had spent at the time of landing. Effectively making me eligible 8.5 days prior i.e March 22 2015.

Is this correct calculation or am I missing something? because the half day rule says "each day you lived in Canada before you became a permanent resident counts as half a day" and in my case, I was already a PR before the 4 year period.

Please guide

Thanks

You can only include time spent in Canada in the four years immediately before your application date. You cannot include time before the four year period. To avoid making calculation errors, use the online tool supplied by CIC:

What Scylla said is the best way for residency calculations.

Suppose, you will sign the application on March 29 2015:
You can include each and every day physically present in Canada since March 29 2011 as FULL days NOT HALF day, because you landed as PR. The rule is intended for people who got PR while working/living here.
Your last sentence is bit confusing; if landed in Nov 2011, you just entered into 4th year of PR now. How is that you said "I was already a PR before the 4 year period" Is it a typo?

I think the mistake you're making is that you're entering Feb 25 2012 as the date you came to live in Canada, which is wrong. In your case the date you became PR (landing) is the date you came to live in Canada. Do it this way and you'll see the difference. You are eligible to apply on Nov 18 2014 + the number of days spent outside Canada.

Thanks Goldline, DonValley & Scylla for your inputs.
Scylla - I became a PR in Nov 2010 & I plan to apply in March 2015. So technically the 4 year window is from March 2011-March 2015. That is why I said that I was already a PR before 4 years.

Based on Goldline's suggestion, I calculated my number of days and it works.
Also I found it much easier to use the "Residence Calculator" on the CIC - that eliminates all the doubts.

Also Goldline, I just read your timeline and am curious.
You applied in June 2014 and are taking the oath in Dec 2014?
Thats really fast and I am happy for you. But such fast timelines are unheard of - I have known of normally people taking 2 years.

Am I missing some detail here?

Thanks

Currently the process is really fast. Some applicants got their citizenship in 5 months or so. Since they increased the fees to $400 it's getting fast. Just make sure your application is complete. Don't forget to sign the application form and include all requested documents. Don't leave any question unanswered or blank, use NA wherever is possible. Also pay attention the the photos (stamped and dated by the photograph and with your name on the back.
Good luck
Another piece of advise. You can fill out your application form NOW even if it's too early. That's what I did like 3 months earlier and every time I open it and was able to see what can be adjusted, corrected or added. If you wait till the last week or day to fill out the form you can easily miss something.

Hello Goldline,
Its Nov 2010
There is something wrong with the dates you're entering. Your 1st post says you became PR 2011 and now you say 2010. If it's 2010 then you became eligible to apply months ago. Assuming you were outside canada for about 4 months(according to your first post) you're eligible to apply around around March 2014
