Firstly, I'd like to mention that this forum is a treasure trove for Canadian immigration with an abundance of great information. I am looking to apply for Express Entry in the near future. I just received my IELTS score today, so I thought it would really help to seek expertise from the forum before initiating my application.

Here's a summary of my current profile:

IELTS:
  • Listening: 7.5 (totally frustrated with the score)
  • Reading: 8.5
  • Writing: 8.5
  • Speaking: 8.0
    ----------------
    Overall: 8.0
    ----------------
Education: (both evaluated by WES)
Master of Science degree from a top-tier university in the US
Bachelor of Engineering degree(4 years) from India

Age: 25
Marital status: Single
Work experience: 1.5 years in India + 3 months(currently working) in the US (in the field of Computer Software)

Following are my doubts:
  1. I have read on the forum that an IELTS score of 8.0 would significantly help. However, it would be tedious for me to retake the test, given the time constraints that I have. Considering my overall profile, would you recommend retaking the test to improve my points?
  2. In my WES report, there is a comment on the report which states that my name differs in one or more academic records. Is this something to worry about?
(The reason for this is because my undergraduate record consists of my first name(with no last name), and my graduate degree lists my full name.)
  3. How would you evaluate my chances? I apologize for this rather silly query, but I need to get an insight from the erudite people who have assessed thousands of profiles?
Thank you in advance.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
1 - Yes.
2 - You can get a one and the same person affidavit.
3 - Use the CRS calculator and compare your score with the most recent draws to see how competitive it is.

I think your scores are pretty good already. So you can just go ahead because you rather start the application early vs later. If you decide to retake it then you still have time. Plus you are still so young which means your age factor will help you with your score. Don't wait and just apply. Another note, the IELTS results must have a validity of 2 years when you submit your application (after being invited) so again don't wait. I had to repeat the exam again just because of this.

As for the name probably you may want to write to your uni and get them to send you a letter endorsing that you are the same person as the transcript/degree.

The one you may still lack a little is the work experience since you are still young. Have you entered your info into the online calculator? That would be the first step.
