I applied to Buffalo and they started processing my application in Dec 2006. I am not a national of USA but was temporarily living in US. Now I am back in my home country. The status of my application is that they have all my required info and now they are "requesting background info from other govt offices". What does this mean. Anyone knows how much longer it will take. All medicals already submitted since they requested it.

I am in similar situation ...I applied in Oct 2007, received interview waiver May 2007, got medicals done same time and then....nothing ! An enquiry in Nov'07 resulted in

We have requested information from other Govt. offices and cannot determine when your application will be finalized .

Now...it has already been more than 10 months and I am left out in the dark. It usually doesn't take this long...(3-4 months are standard).

It is really frustrating....Any experts have any idea why am I going through this problem ?

Hi, I also applied in Buffalo through an immigration lawyer in Nov 2007. Got my AOR in Jan 2008, did meds in June 2008 and updated all required docs and paid RPR fee in Sept 2008 (interview waived). Followed up my case in Jan 2009 through my lawyer and Buffalo replied that my application "involves consultation with other visa offices and government agencies...". I know that it is one of their standard replies for inquiries about background checks but I'm just wondering how come they use different 'standard' replies - eg "involves consultation" "requested background check", "requested information" etc.? (just curious)... BUT the more important questions really are WHEN WILL THEY BE DONE WITH THE BACKGROUND CHECK PROCESS and WHEN WILL THEY ISSUE THE PPR????

Hope we'll all get our PPRs soon, hopefully this March or next month....

The problem is actually the backlog the countries they requested information from, they are too slow and does not reply, so Canadian Secret Services has to wait and so as you. If it is from London, US, Australia etc. the PPR comes real fast because it is easier to get info from these countries.

I am from a third world country so I assume that they are waiting information from my home country with respect to the background checks (12 months still awaiting information from other govt offices). Has anyone tried to find out which offices are doing these checks to see if they can speed along the process? I dont know who is responsible for doing this in my home country, but now that i read these posts I will try to find out.

is the background check is required for each country you live in for more than six months. This is very hard process because some countries they often not reply to letters regarding theses issues. Is this process still after feb. 2009?

Thank you

Yes, background check is for every country you lived in for 6 months or more. They need to make sure the applicant doesn't have any criminal or terrorist records/links in those countries.

Hi,
I last requested an update mid-Feb and the status is still the same - requesting background checks from other govt offices. All this waiting makes me wonder if I will ever get through with immigrating to Canada.
